MDA (Music Development Agency) is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to enhance and improve the creative economy and music practice across merseyside and throughout the North West region
Founded in 1996, MDA has developed over the years and now provides a number of services including enterprise development in the creative industries through to supporting music-making opportunities for young people
MDA currently operates the following services:
Amplifi

Music Zone
Music zone is the young person's music and creative arts service for the MDA. It provides access to the arts in a creative, nurturing and non-competitive environment.
Music zone works with a wide range of arts, educational and local authority departments to deliver focused activities in the following areas.
Education and Schooling - Music Zone work in collaboration to work with excluded children, young people with low educational attainment, after school and extended school clusters
Justice Sector - Young offenders Institutions, Positive Activities for Young People
Vulnerable Children and Young Adults - from disadvantaged or abusive backgrounds
Minority Groups - BME, Refugee and Asylum seekers, N.E.E.T. - young people (Not in Education Employment or Training)
C.R.A.F.T.I.E
The CRAFTIE (Certificated Training in Business Development and Entrepreneurship for Creative Refugees and Asylum Seekers) Project delivers training in business entrepreneurship, cultural and social development and creative IT skills, offered on a group and one to one basis. The project, delivered by a partnership of organisations (MDA, Merseyside Refugee Support Network and Sola Arts) provides Merseyside's Refugees and Asylum Seekers with an expansive programme of diverse support; increasing employability through enterprise and creative skills development
Since receiving the first instalment of our Baring Funding in 2007, the C.R.A.FT.I.E project has made significant progress in establishing the Programme as a vehicle for enabling Asylum Seekers and Refugees to access training and other support in Merseyside.
Our students have been successful in:
- Gaining employment
- Establishing themselves as freelance arts practitioners
- Starting the process of setting up a community resource for fellow asylum seekers and refugees
- Gaining recognised IT Qualifications
- Producing outstanding creative work that has been showcased in various exhibitions
