MDA - What Do We Do?

quoteDeveloping the Creative Economy

MDA (Music Development Agency) is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to enhance and improve the creative economy and music practice across Merseyside and throughout the North West region

Founded  in 1996, MDA has developed over the years and now provides a number of services ranging from enterprise development in the creative industries through to supporting music-making opportunities for young people

MDA currently operates the following services:

Amplifi

Amplifi is a programme of three different media projects offered within the Stepclever area, using interest in music and creative media to promote entrepreneurship amongst 16-25 year olds

. The projects offer young people the opportunity to work on:

  • Amplifi magazine - a successful high quality magazine produced by and for 16-25 year olds, with thousands of copies distributed around the Merseyside area and beyond
  • Amplifi Download Record Label - work with us to discover, develop and produce local talent.  Tracks produced so far include Always which was an online hit for local band Post War Wage Slaves
  • Events Management Project - find out how to organise and manage an event.  Events so far have included Fashionably Loud a music/fashion show and Amplifest a music event held at Bumper Bar in the city centre

So far, Amplifi has been offered exclusively to residents in the Stepclever areas in North Liverpool and South Sefton.  In the near future we plan on expanding our catchment area, covering much of Merseyside.

Music Development

In 2009, MDA successfully applied for a LCC Youth Arts Service Package which currently allows us to deliver music-based packages to 13-19 year olds across the city.

In addition, for the last two years MDA, in collaboration with Liverpool Youth Offending Service, has been delivering the annual Summer Arts College programme. A cornerstone of the Youth Justice Board and Arts Council strategic partnership, this stimulating course provides 25 hours per week of arts-based activity over a six week period during the summer holidays. The programme targets young people who are at risk of re-offending.
